Wacky Holidays to Celebrate in February and How to Make Them Unforgettable

Life’s too short to wait for the big holidays to roll around. Why not embrace the quirky side of life with some wacky celebrations? Whether you’re a foodie, a fan of fun traditions, or just need something easy and fun to make memories with your kids and friends, these wacky holidays are perfect for you. Here’s a guide to celebrating National Pizza Day, Frozen Yogurt Day, Pancake Day, and Random Acts of Kindness Day this February!

National Pizza Day – February 9

Pizza lovers, rejoice! National Pizza Day is your chance to pay homage to one of the world’s most beloved dishes.

How to Celebrate:

  1. Host a Pizza Party: Set up a DIY pizza bar with toppings ranging from classic pepperoni to unconventional options like figs and prosciutto. Let guests craft their dream pies. My favorite thing to do with my kids is make mini pizzas and let them put the toppings on themselves! This is my go-to recipe.

  2. Try Local Pizzerias: Make it a mission to try a new local pizza spot or order from a place you’ve never tried before. Support a small business while doing something fun!

  3. Dessert Pizza: Not a fan of pizza? Dessert pizza is the perfect way to celebrate National Pizza day! You can find my family's favorite recipe here:

National Frozen Yogurt Day – February 6

Celebrate the creamy, tangy delight of frozen yogurt with a day dedicated to everyone’s favorite frosty treat.

How to Celebrate:

  1. Create a Froyo Bar at Home: Stock up on plain frozen yogurt and an array of toppings like fresh fruit, candy, granola, and syrups. Invite friends for a froyo-making competition.

  2. Visit a Frozen Yogurt Shop: Many froyo shops offer discounts or freebies on this day. Check out your local favorites and pile on the toppings guilt-free.

  3. Experiment with Recipes: Try making your own frozen yogurt at home with ingredients like Greek yogurt, honey, and fresh berries.

Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday) – February 25

Known as Pancake Day or Shrove Tuesday, this holiday has roots in using up rich ingredients before Lent. It’s now an excuse to flip and stack to your heart’s content.

How to Celebrate:

  1. All-You-Can-Eat Pancakes: Host a pancake breakfast or dinner with toppings like maple syrup, whipped cream, fresh fruit, and even savory options like bacon or smoked salmon. This is our favorite recipe.

  2. Pancake Art: Get creative with pancake batter and try making shapes, animals, or intricate designs. A quick easy way to do this is to take a zip-loc baggy, pour the batter in, and then cut a very small hole in the corner of it.

Random Acts of Kindness Day – February 17

A day to brighten someone’s day through simple, selfless acts. It’s a celebration that truly makes the world a better place.

How to Celebrate:

  1. Spread Joy Locally: Pay for someone’s coffee, leave positive notes in public places, or donate to a local charity.

  2. Kindness Kits: Assemble small kits with snacks, toiletries, or other essentials to give to people in need.

  3. Chalk-the-Block: This idea is a really one for kids. Little kids can simply do hearts on neighbors driveways.
